Managing a parent product

Managing a parent product

Parent products, also called folders or room products, are useful to segregate a project into distinct parts. Parent products are in dark grey, while children products are alternating between beige and white.

You may add products to a parent product by double-clicking on it. From there, you will find a product tab (for children products), material tab, as well as a cost and planning tabs.

Note that materials added to a parent product will remain linked to your folder for when rooms are transferred to a work-order, but will be sorted together regardless of the room.

Parent products are also useful to manage sales price, margins, costing and shipping.

For instance, should you have a project with rooms on both the first and second floor of a home, you could ship and install the rooms on the first floor, while the rooms associated to the second floor are manufactured and shipped at a later date.

Both products and materials can also be substituted from the parent folder, whether it’s a changing from one cabinet to another, or swapping a sheet good.

All you need to do is check the box for the line you would like to exchange, and then click the button at the bottom right to prompt the product-selection window.

In regards to pricing, there are many options available to you : you could manually enter a price for the folder, the price of the children product could be added together to create your parent price, as well as a cost-plus from the cost tab.

For now, we will start by pricing each parent manually.
